Having just spent 2 weeks in New York with some private clients and researching our Girls’ Getaway for 2016, I have come away with my 3 latest ‘Must Do’s’ that you simply have to experience when you are there. There is so much to do in this city that sometimes it can feel overwhelming and make it hard to choose. I appreciate that everyone has different needs, but these are the 3 that I now believe are unmissable!
1. Helicopter Ride Over Manhattan
This is the ultimate way to see the city in one brief, exciting hit… I took some of my clients (including Significant Other) during our stay last month, and they had the time of their lives and agreed that everyone should do this. You see everything from the top of Manhattan Island to the bottom, including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Jersey. Total exhilaration and the best view you will get. It is also great if you have limited time and can’t get to everything, plus avoids the queues to attractions such as the Statue of Liberty.
2. A Concert in Madison Square Garden
We had the opportunity to secure tickets to see U2 in Madison Square Garden, part of their current world tour. Without question, it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, and the venue had a lot to do with it! There is something fabulous about seeing a rock concert in this amazing arena-style hall, and the atmosphere was electric. I have decided that each time I visit, I will be checking what’s on and if there is something good, will be taking in a show here. It is so easy to get to, with the subway and Penn station just underneath so you don’t even have to struggle with the rather ridiculous NYC traffic!
3. The Frick Museum
New York has some of the best Art Galleries and Museums in the world: MOMA, The Guggenheim and the Met to name a few. However, I finally took the advice of a friend of mine and headed to the Frick. After a leisurely stroll across Central Park from the Upper West Side to Museum Mile, we entered what can only be described as a jaw-droppingly, beautifully preserved mansion. The Frick was originally the private home of Henry and Helen Frick and was built between 1913-1914. Sitting just back from Fifth Avenue, the mansion houses an exquisite collection of art and furnishings, many from the time the family resided there. If you love art and like to gorge a little (like I do) you will love the Constables, Turners and a divine Renoir plus too many to other incredible artists to mention.
Taking you back to a bygone era this is a brilliant example of extreme wealth in the 20th century, and showcases how the other half truly lived during this period. The Frick can be found on 1 East 70th Street and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and on Sundays from 11am to 5pm – be prepared to spend some time!
Of course, there is much more to experience in New York, such as great food, cultural activities and entertainment, but no matter what you do these 3 options will add just that little more to your holiday in this fabulous city.
We will definitely be including these options in our Girls’ Getaway in 2016 (plus so much more) so watch out for our luxury escape to New York, coming soon!
Have a great week and would love to hear your must-sees for New York!
